Home visits and aged care exercise physiology, Five Dock
If getting to the clinic is the hard part, Andrew comes to you. We cover Five Dock and the surrounding Inner West suburbs.
Plenty of people who would benefit most from exercise physiology are the ones least able to get to a clinic for it. Home visits exist for that, and they are funded the same way clinic appointments are.
A home visit has one real advantage over the clinic: we see the actual stairs, the actual chair, the actual bathroom. A balance program written in a gym is a guess about your house. One written in your house is not.
What we work on at home
Most of it comes down to staying steady on your feet and staying independent.
Falls prevention
Balance, reaction time and leg strength, worked on where you actually walk. We also look at the obvious hazards while we are there, and say so if we see one.
Getting up and about
Out of a chair, off the toilet, up off the floor, in and out of a car. These are trainable and they are what independence usually turns on.
Keeping strength as you age
Muscle is lost steadily from about fifty onwards and faster after an illness or a hospital stay. Resistance work is the only thing that reliably puts it back.
After a hospital admission
The weeks after coming home are when most ground is lost. A program started early holds on to what you still have.
How home visits are funded
Home Care Package funding covers exercise physiology, and so does the Support at Home programme that has replaced it for new participants. Your provider pays us directly against your budget. If you are not sure what your package covers, ask your care partner or coordinator to ring us.
Home visits can also be funded through an NDIS plan, through a Medicare chronic disease plan, or paid for privately. There is a travel component on top of the appointment fee, and we will tell you what it is before the first visit.
Where we travel
Five Dock and the suburbs around it: Drummoyne, Russell Lea, Abbotsford, Chiswick, Concord, Haberfield, Croydon, Burwood and nearby. Ring and ask if you are a little further out, because it depends on the day.
Questions we get asked
Do I need any equipment at home?
Can my family be there?
Does a Home Care Package cover this?
How often would I be seen?
Would a home visit be easier?
Ring (02) 8054 3775 and tell us the suburb and what is making it hard to get out. We will tell you whether we cover you and what it would cost.
